Authorities are investigating after a worker was killed on Oct. 24 in an accident at a polyethylene resin plant operated by Dow Canada near Red Deer, Alta.

As reported in The Toronto Star, the 47-year-old victim – whose name has not been released – was fatally injured after being pinned by a drum dumper, which loads material into a hopper.

The Occupational Health and Safety agency, which is investigating the accident, has placed a stop-use order on the machine.

Dow said in a statement that the company is “deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a colleague, and we are working closely with all parties involved to gather more information and learn from this tragic incident.”

The plant site, known as Dow Prentiss, has more than 120 employees.
