Mac Closures Inc. has announced a joint venture with Delatour SA of France to make closures at a Montreal facility. The joint venture, Macap, will focus on molding closures for the food and beverage industry. Macap plans to invest about $6 million to upgrade the Montreal operation, which presently has 19 injection presses and employs approximately 30 people.

According to the company, the alliance with Delatour represents an investment in the future of the food closure market. Founded at the end of the 1960s, Delatour is a European leader in the field.

Mac Closures also announced that it will add about 20 jobs and invest about $3 million in its Oakville, Ont. plant next year, and another $4 million in its Waterloo, Que. facility over the next three years. This capital will be invested in new infrastructures including a conditioning room to meet the pharmaceutical sector’s stringent quality standards, a new research centre to speed up development and commercialization of new products and a new wing on the main building for administrative functions.

According to the company, both of these plants will concentrate on making closures for the pharmaceutical, household-chemical and personal-care markets.
