Quebec profile extruder bought by German firm

Canplast Inc., a Montreal-based extrusion company, has been purchased by Surteco AG, a German supplier of plastic- and paper-based surface finishes for the construction and furniture industries. Canplast produces PVC edgebanding and other edging products. It has a workforce of 225, and generated sales of $48 million last year.
Canplast has production facilities in Greensboro, NC and Montreal.
The acquisition of Canplast improves Surteco’s market coverage in North America, and may create production and development synergies between Canplast and another Surteco company, Doellken-Woodtape. Doellken-Woodtape also produces thermoplastic edging tapes, and has facilites in Mississauga, ON, Washington, North Carolina and Illinois.
