The first Canadian Association of Moldmakers meeting of the new year (and millennium) was highlighted by the annual student awards night. The awards are presented to a select group of students enrolled in the St. Clair College Moldmakers Apprentice Program. The awards are sponsored by CAMM with support from local companies. The year’s Best Moldmaking Technician award went to Jeffery Moore. Receiving the Best Plastic Mold Product Design Technician award was Sam Shiu. The Best Manufacturing Technician CAD/CAM award was presented to Jose Martin. Each award-winner received a plaque from CAMM and a trophy for one of the supporting companies.

In other CAMM news, Golf Day chairman Mike Hicks announced that this year’s CAMM golf day will be Sunday, June 4, at Fox Glen Golf Club. Tickets go on sale March 1 and are $105 per ticket, which includes golf, cart and dinner. For more information contact Mike Hicks at 519/253-2431 or 800/265-4885.

The first CAMM trade fair held last November at the Windsor Casino attracted over 50 exhibitors and 1000 attendees, netting about $11,000 for CAMM, Hicks reported. Preliminary plans are to hold the trade fair next year, in January 2001, to coincide with the Detroit Auto Show.
