The Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA) has selected this year’s Leader of the Year, as well as two Lifetime Achievement Award winners, and three Canplast award winners.

The six industry veterans will be honoured for their accomplishments and their contributions to the plastics industry at the CPIA’s annual awards banquet, to be held on May 21 in Toronto.Sajjad Ebrahim, president of thermoplastic packager Par-Pak Ltd. of Brampton, Ont., has been given the Leader of the Year Award, presented to “individuals who distinguish themselves by building strong, vibrant businesses while contributing to the industry and to their own communities,” the CPIA said.

The recipients of CPIA’s Lifetime Achievement Award are Robert Krycki, founder and president of Mississauga, Ont.-based flexible packaging machinery supplier Future Design Inc.; and Gilles Plante, president of Poly Expert, a Montreal-based extruder of polyethylene films.

The three recipients of the association’s Canplast Award are Miguel Petrucci, president of Woodbridge, Ont.-based Compact Mould, chair of the CPIA Mould Makers Council and a member of the CPIA board of directors; John Zadro, president of Structural Glass of Winnipeg, chair of the CPIA’s Composites Council and a CPIA board member; and Marion Axmith, a 25 year veteran of CPIA and the SPI Canada, and who currently serves as Director General of the Vinyl Council.
