100% growth expected for flat panel screens

High demand for LCD screens for televisions is expected to lead to a near doubling of the world LCD market by 2007, according to IDC, a technology research group. This year alone the total liquid crystal display market is expected to grow by more than 50% to about US$37 billion from US$24 billion in 2003. Thin-screen TVs are becoming as popular as flat computer screens.
IDC said that 4.3% of the LCD-TV panels would be more than 30 in. wide by 2007. L.G. Phillips, the world’s largest LCD screen maker, said in March it would invest US$22 billion with its parts suppliers over the next 10 years to capitalize on the booming demand for flat panel TV displays.
