Bio-based film chosen by Canadian grocery chain

Montreal-based grocery chain Dr Vie Inc. has chosen bio-based and compostable NatureFlex film to wrap its “superfood” products.

Dr Vie produces a range of all-natural products, such as acai berry raw chocolate bars, which are aimed at consumers looking to improve their general well-being and prevent illness.

Manufactured by British-based specialty film provider Innovia Films, NatureFlex is a compostable cellulose packaging film derived from wood pulp. The metallized version provides similar functional performance as conventional metallized film but biodegrades, even in a home composting system, Innovia said in a statement.

According to Innovia, NatureFlex films are certified to meet both the American ASTM D6400 and European EN13432 standards for compostable packaging. The wood-pulp is sourced from managed plantations from referenced suppliers operating Good Forestry principals (FSC or equivalent). NatureFlex films typically have a renewable bio-based content of some 95 per cent by weight of material.
