Winpak acquires barrier tray business

Winpak Ltd. has acquired the Map Fresh barrier tray division of Clear Lam Packaging, Inc. The purchase is intended to complement Winpak’s existing technology for manufacturing high-barrier polypropylene sheet, and to enhance the company’s ability to meet customers’ growing demand for innovative products, according to a release issued by the company.
In addition to the Map Fresh product line and customer base, Winpak has acquired all the division’s equipment and tooling to produce the complete range of tray sizes used in the fast-growing case-ready, fresh meat market.
Winpak (Winnipeg, Manitoba) said it intends to extend the product reach of the trays to include modified atmosphere packaging applications in the processed meat and home meal replacement markets.
