Winpak Ltd. veteran, Murray Thomas has become the first unionized worker to join the Canadian Plastics Sector Council’s (CPSC) board of directors.
The CPSC announced his appointment last week.
“I feel I can bring some insight into how the people on the floor feel,” he said. “I can supply the board with a worker’s point of view.”
During the past 21 years Thomas has worked at Winpak, a distributor of machinery and materials for manufacturing packaging in Winnipeg, as a photopolymer plate-maker.
Additionally, he has served as president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworks (CEP) Union of Canada, local 830 for the past 18 years .
“Murray comes with the perception of the issues of the unionized worker,” Charlie Brimley, executive director of the CPSC, said. “This is the first time we’ve had a unionized worker. He actually helps make us even more representative than we have been.
