Calgary, Alta.-based Resin Systems Inc. has announced that its contract manufacturer, Tilbury, Ont.-based Global Composite Manufacturing, Inc. (GCM), has commenced commercial production of the RStandard polyurethane utility poles from the first production cell.

All required quality checks and climate controls on the first production cell were completed last week.

“The beginning of commercial production is a critical milestone reached through the dedicated joint effort of Global Composite Manufacturing and RS over many months,” said president and CEO Paul Giannelia in a press release. “We will now turn our attention to adding shifts on the first cell and working on the preparation of the second cell.”

Production began with one shift, and GCM plans to add second and third shifts shortly. Full production from the first cell is anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2007.

Resin Systems announced its contract with GCM to manufacture the RStandard poles in March 2007. RStandard poles are made with polyurethane resin, which is lightweight and immune to rot, corrosion and pests.

At the time, the company noted that the facility would generate approximately 100 permanent positions in 2007, in addition to 50 temporary jobs initially required to start up production.
