Alcoa Inc. has announced a major new investment program aimed at expanding its plastic closure manufacturing capacity in North America and China. Alcoa will spend more than $20 million to expand capacity in support of numerous high-growth market segments ranging, from closures to bottles water to closures for adult beverages. The company says almost all of the expansion is already under contract with major customers.
A company spokesman at Alcoa headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA would not say whether some of the investment was directly or indirectly targeted for Canada.
"The investment involves a number of different actions across a number of different facilities in North America and Asia," reported Kevin Lowery, Alcoa’s associate director of corporate communications.
Closure manufacturing is carried out by Alcoa Closure Systems International, Inc. (CSI), a subsidiary of Alcoa. Products include compression- and injection-molded plastic closures. CSI reports selling over 50 billion closures in 2001.
