Compounder and concentrate maker PolyOne Corporation is increasing capacity for its OnForce (TM) LFT long-fibre specialty thermoplastics to match rising demand for metal replacement.

The company’s production facility in Avon Lake, Ohio will have a new, dedicated specialty production line for OnForce. It will be fully operational by the end of February.

The robust glass- and carbon fibre-filled formulations feature greater stiffness, impact strength, and surface finish than short-fiber filled materials, PolyOne said. They also retain aesthetic appeal in metal replacement and structural applications.

According to Craig Nikrant, president at PolyOne Global Specialty Engineered Materials, demand for lighter weight materials and products made from them continues to rise.

“PolyOne has a proven track record of working closely with our customers to develop innovative specialty formulations that meet their specific performance needs,” Nikrant said. “This investment is aligned with current megatrends to better serve our customers in North America across several industries, including industrial, transportation, oil and gas, and shooting sports.”
