STRUKTOL RELEASES ENGINEERED LUBRICANTS FOR WPCS

Specifically formulated to increase output rates, improve colour dispersion and reduce edge tearing, Struktol Company of America (Stow, OH) has engineered a line of lubricants for use with polyolefin (PO), styrenic and polyvinyl chloride (PVC)-wood composites.

Compared with conventional lubrication systems, Struktol TPW 104 provides processing improvements specifically for PO compounds. When the PO-wood composite formulation contains reactive chemical coupling agents, Strucktol TPW 113, is the ideal additive to provide physical property improvements.

CONICAL TWIN-SCREW EXTRUDER MADE FOR WOOD-PLASTIC COMPOSITES

Capable of outputs of up to 2,600lb/hr, Cincinnati Milacron’s (Cincinnati, OH) new TC96 conical twin-screw extruder has been built for challenging, high-output applications made with wood fiber/plastic composites (WPC).

The extruder’s unique compression and low-shear mixing capabilities allow for high-fiber loading — up to 70% — and an unmatched material processing range. The extruder also delivers a homogenous melt from blends of natural and synthetic fibers, heat- and shear-sensitive thermoplastics, recycled plastics, coupling and nucleating agents, pigments and other additives

The TC96’s large diameter screws — 202mm tapering to 96mm — with 30-to-one L/D ratio (based on the discharge diameter) optimize feed zone surface area for faster, more uniform heat transmission from screws to material. The tapered screw allows for a faster feed zone for fluffy material and applies a natural compression during processing, resulting in the wood flour being effectively “wetted out.”

CINCINNATI EXTRUSION SHOWCASES FOURTH-GENERATION FIBEREXT LINES

The FiberexT lines from Cincinnati Extrusion Inc. (Erlanger, KY) offers fourth-generation extrusion lines specifically designed for wood-plastic composite (WPC) processing. The FiberexT lines yield an output of up to 1,250kg/h with speeds of up to 5m/min. Additionally, Cincinnati Extrusion has rolled out 30 different screw geometries for the six machine sizes of the Fibrex WPC twin-screw extruders.

The FiberexT extruders also feature an extended processing unit, including an enhanced degassing section. The barrel and screws are manufactured from corrosion-resistant alloys.

B&P PROCESS, CINCINNATI MILACRON, RELEASE TWIN-SCREW EXTRUDER

Cincinnati Milacron Extrusion Systems (Batavia, OH) has joined with B&P Process Equipment (Saginaw, MI) to release a co-rotating, parallel twin-screw extruder, the TimberEX TE125-33, which provides an output of up to 4,000lb/hr.

The TE125-33 features a 125mm bore diameter, 200rpm maximum screw speed, and a 32.5:1L/D. A centreline ratio and barrel geometry provide wood-plastic composite (WPC) processors with optimized internal free volume for medium-torque, low-shear, efficient mixing, melting, devolatilization and output.
