Santoprene thermoplastic elastomer from Advanced Elastomer Systems is used for the windscreen and backlight sealing systems of the new Audi TT. An innovative new robotic extrusion technology developed by Sekurit Saint-Gobain is used to apply the TPE profile directly to the glass. It is bonded to the glass by a proprietary adhesive system.

The windows, with Santoprene TPE sealing systems in place, are shipped directly to the Audi TT car plant assembly line for installation, where the glass is assembled into the car body in a single step operation.

The frameless flush glazing technology of Sekurit Saint-Gobain using Santoprene TPE profiles to cover the gap between the glass edge and car body is an inherent part of the Audi TT styling.

A special grade of Santoprene was developed for this application. It offers flexibility in profile design, ease of processing, frictionless sealing for silent performance and weatherability.
