A new line of screwdrivers from Shanghai Jetech Tool Co. features a grip made of Uniprene, a thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) manufactured by Teknor Apex. The grip on the patent-pending screwdrivers makes turning a screw easier and more ergonomic.
“Besides providing a high-quality look and feel, the Uniprene TPV costs less than the TPE we had originally specified and processes at a higher rate,” says Hong Tao, general manager of Shanghai Jetech.
Using multi-cavity tools, the company insert molds rigid, high-impact polypropylene handles onto the shanks; the PP is black to match the magnetized screwdriver tip. Finally, a thin one to three mm layer of green or red Uniprene TPV is overmolded on the handle. Teknor Apex supplies the company with ready-to-mold, pre-colored compounds with high lot-to-lot consistency.
