Acetronic has received accreditation to calibrate electronic temperature instruments, either in-house or at the customer’s site.

Thyssen-Krupp Specialty Steels now stocks a full line of aluminum products in Windsor to meet demand for blow molds and prototyping applications. Bruce McIntosh reports there’s a huge demand for prototyping in Windsor, while blow molding demand is more centred in Toronto.

Ken Thuro of Cassco Automation notes that the company has been building a lot of automated heat transfer decorating systems for applications in bar coding and optical character recognition (OCR). “These systems are replacing a lot of pad printers, especially in lights out applications,” says Thuro. “Most companies want to get the ink out of their operations.”

A desire for better aesthetics is prompting increased business for blow molding machines that can produce small PET bottles, according to Bob Agnew of Moldpro. Most of these smaller bottles are destined for personal care and hotel amenities markets.

Mold Status International has created a new service niche: independent project management for mold build contracts. The company will monitor and manage mold building projects anywhere in the world on behalf of OEMs or product designer. Mold Status also offers troubleshooting and assistance with mold trials. Another fit that CEO Paul Mulville envisions for his company’s capabilities is representing mold makers at foreign trade shows.
