Anyone who has ever forgotten a vegetable at the back of their fridge, only to find it rotten and sprouting limbs weeks later, will be grateful for Bosch Home Appliance Corp.’s (BSH) new EasyStore refrigerator.
The EasyStore’s transparent pull-out trays are made from Terlux 2812 TR methacrylate/ acrylonitrile/butadiene/ styrene (MABS) polymer from BASF, which performs better than other polymers traditionally used for interior refrigerator casings, according to BASF. These include polycarbonate (PC), polystyrene (PS) or styrene acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN).
The trays needed to be transparent so hungry owners could easily find the snack they’re craving, BSH said. The other reason BSH selected Terlux 2812 R was for its good resistance against cracking and its ability to resist oil and cleaning agents, as well as withstand stress and impact at low temperatures.
Plus, the material has easy colourability and good sound dampening abilities, protecting sensitive ears from the unavoidable “buzz”, a property, which also made the polymer an ideal fit for the EasyStore trays, BASF noted.
