For the first time ever a vacuum cleaner has been made solely out of polypropylene. Traditionally, PP has been used for interior parts and some structural components of household appliances. Up till now, the material has not been capable of meeting appliance manufacturers’ aesthetic demands for external parts; ABS has generally been used instead.
The PP grade Xmod BG065SA from Borealis met the requirements of stiffness, impact strength and gloss needed by the Polish appliance manufacturer Zelmer for its Orion model. In comparison to ABS, the PP grade also has 40 percent higher heat perfromance, 10 percent weight savings and 60 percent cost savings.
