ABT Electronics & Appliance was experiencing a return rate for its acrylic refrigerator front panels of more than 30 percent, due to marring from chemicals found in household ammonia-based window cleaners. Since ABT replaced standard acrylic sheet with Acrylite AR abrasion resistant acrylic sheet fom CYRO, customer returns have stopped.
Acrylite AR sheet is a continuously manufactured acrylic material that uses the proprietary 3M 906 Abrasion Resistant Coating from 3M Company. “This material has 40 times the mar resistance of the material we were previously using,” reports Bob Taylor, ABT director of operations. The panels also stand up to accidental contact with kitchen utensils and household tools.
ABT applies black or white 1/4 in. sheet to the front of its refrigerators. Only the outside of the sheet is coated for abrasion resistance.
