Canadian polyurethane (PU) foam manufacturer The Woodbridge Group is partnering with a group of companies to build a new PU foam block production facility in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The partnership also includes American Insulock Inc., a developer of PU insulating blocks used in the construction industry, Al Mobty Co. and London-based Hinduja Group (L&T Group).

When completed, the 200,000 square foot plant will produce between 100 million to 130 million Insulock Blocks per year, the companies said in a press release.

Woodbridge Group and Riyahd-based Al Mobty have committed over $17 million to the project, the press release continued, while Mesa, Ariz.-based American Insulock will retain a 20 per cent equity participation.

Mississauga, Ont.-based Woodbridge Group currently manufactures the Insulock Block product line in St. Louis for distribution in the U.S.

Woodbridge Group acquired 10.43 percent of the outstanding common shares of American Insulock in October 2008.

Insulock Blocks are made using closed-cell PU, and have a 5½-inch round voids that allow them to interlock without the use of mortar. Filled with concrete during construction, they are designed to replace the concrete masonry units in construction applications.
