Optima to distribute natural fiber reinforced thermoplastics in Ontario, Quebec, Eastern Canada

Optima Colour and GreenCore Composites Inc. have signed an agreement that makes Optima the official distributor of GreenCore’s NCell natural fiber composites for consumer and industrial markets in Ontario, Quebec and Eastern Canada.

Supplied in pellet form, NCell are a family of high-performance thermoplastic compounds for injection molding and extrusion, and can be used as a drop-in replacement on existing tooling and molding equipment. According to Toronto-based GreenCore, the compounds offer up to a 100 per cent increase in mechanical properties such as tensile strength compared to commercially available natural fiber composites made from hemp, flax, and wood flour.

“This is an important step to make a real penetration in the North American market,” said Sam Hasan, GreenCore’s VP of marketing and business development.

GreenCore is a “cleantech” manufacturer of natural fiber reinforced thermoplastic materials for automotive, consumer, and other industrial products. The company has a manufacturing plant in Mississauga, Ont.

Optima Colour is headquartered in Cambridge, Ont.
