Bolton, Ont.-based injection molding equipment supplier Husky Injection Molding Systems announced that it has developed a 216-cavity preform mold in partnership with global packager Amcor PET Packaging.
The 21-cavity mold was introduced last week at the National Plastics Exhibition (NPE) 2006 in Chicago.
The new mold, which features 60 mm cavity spacing, is designed to run in Husky’s HyPET 650 product line. As part of the development of the new machine, a new injection unit that will reach throughputs as high as 1,800 kg/hr will also be introduced.
“We have had various concepts for 192 cavities and higher on the drawing board for some time,” John Galt, Husky’s president and CEO, said. “But we wanted ensure the hot runner and machine technologies were advanced enough to take full advantage of the increased cavitation. With our new speed-up technologies, enhanced process control and improved hot runners, we’re now there.”
In addition to its Bolton operation, Husky has manufacturing facilities in the U.S., Luxembourg and China. Amcor has global headquarters in Victoria, Australia and Canadian operations in Calgary, Alta.
