Specialty chemicals maker Huntsman Corp. plans to expand one of its production lines in Alabama.

Specialty chemicals maker Huntsman Corp. plans to expand one of its production lines in Alabama.

According to a press release, the Salt Lake City, Utah-based company will launch a multi-million dollar engineering study at the McIntosh facility. The goal is to increase capacity for multifunctional resins used by the aerospace and composite industries. McIntosh is located approximately 40 miles north of Mobile off the Gulf of Mexico.

The move will be the latest in what is proving to be a busy summer for Huntsman. A few weeks ago, the company also doubled epoxy resin production capabilities at its Monthey, Switzerland facility.

“Demand for multifunctional epoxy resins, as a replacement for aluminum and other materials and the forecasted needs of the aerospace industry are major factors influencing this decision,” said James Huntsman, president of the company’s Advanced Materials Division. “These investments will bring enormous benefit and value to our customers around the world, helping them address some of the engineering challenges they face over the coming years to produce lighter, more efficient materials.”
