Stephen Sales’ Peter Stephen isn’t afraid to take a stand on the technology issue, and understands the quandary faced by processors sourcing a large-tonnage press. He suggests three basic questions as a starting point for processors investigating large press issues:
1. How and where is tonnage built?
2. How and where are the split nuts activated?
3. How is the moving platen guided?
Additionally, Stephen suggests inquiring about retractable tie rods. Molders do have to take the mold out of the machine once in a while.
