Material Technologies and Sciences Inc. produces polyurethane snowplow blade edges, which can reduce damage to roads and equipment, and help avoid injuries to operators. The elastomeric nature of the polyurethane edges also lets the blade act like a “squeegee” on the road, so it picks up far more snow and slush, and leaves less water on the surface to refreeze, reports the company. The blade edges are made of high performance polyurethane materials from Bayer. The material mix includes Baytec ME-230, a quasi-prepolymer that can produce polyurethane elastomers with excellent overall physical properties under less demanding processing conditions than conventional hot-cast elastomers. Baytec ME-230 polyester prepolymer is used for MT&S’s severe-use products.

The polyurethane edges last three to four times longer than standard, cold-rolled steel edges.
