THREE-LAYER SYSTEM REPLACES MONOLAYER IN NO EXTRA SPACE

Macchi’s Coex Flex compact extrusion systems are equipped with three extruders, a three-layer side fed extrusion die, tubing and all required connectors. All components are assembled on a custom platform and provide a complete machinery system that is in tune, user-friendly and easy to use and transport. One of the main advantages of the system is its ability to replace a traditional monolayer extrusion system and still occupy the same floor space. It is available in five sizes, ranging from 200 to 650 kg/hr with die sizes up to 26 in. in diameter.

GAUGE CONTROLLER KEEPS FILM IN SPEC

Macro’s new Accupro is an automatic gauge control system for blown film dies. The operating principle of the Accupro system is based on segmenting the outer die lip of a blown film die with cartridge heaters and having the system apply power to heaters in the segments of the lip where a reduction in gauge is required. The thinning effect is accomplished as the hotter segments of the bubble downgauge more than the rest as it exits the die. A 360 degree oscillating gamma backscatter scanner located above the bubble cage reads the gauge profile around the perimeter of the bubble and sends the information to the control unit.

COOLER DESIGN REDUCES ENERGY

Berg has a new blown film cooler design that reduces energy consumption and requires less floor space. Energy consumption is reduced by utilizing a 5 degree difference between the temperature of the water entering and the temperature of the air departing, resulting in a 10% savings. This design also permits a reduction in cooler size of about 10%, saving floor space. The new cooler is made with stainless steel to eliminate corrosion and possible contamination of the film stream. It is also designed with longer inlet and outlet reducers to minimize air pressure loss.

GAUGING SYSTEMS BOOST PERFORMANCE

The BF200 Blown Film Gauging System is an on-line, non-contact system that employs an “after-the-layflat” approach to gauging. High measurement performance is achieved through the use of SolveTech’s proprietary C-Frame measurement head. Latest improvements include better history features, enhanced statistics and the ability to cut and paste data into other software programs.

For off-line gauging, Solve-Tech’s Precision Profiler incorporates the same technology as the on-line system, providing exceptional repeatability. An upgraded “B” model incorporates improvements to film transport and tensioning, plus additional software for data filtering.

A FULL LINE OF ACCESSORIES

Novasystem Machinery Inc. offers a full line of dies, air rings and accessories for blown film. The Novasystem air ring is made from an aluminum alloy and uses a low pressure, high volume air flow to create bubble stability. The company’s manual screen changer is made of 4140 steel and heat treated to enable high quality filtering. The company also carries mono- and multi-layer dies and complete high-output extrusion lines for most resins.
