PORTABLE DRYER PERFECT FOR MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS

Nucon Wittmann’s new Drymax C30 twin desiccant-bed dryer offers a capacity of 30 m3/hr. and has all the features of the larger Drymax series models. It is available in three different configurations for maximum flexibility: hopper mounted, i.e. attached directly to the drying hopper on the press; beside-the-press, with a separate drying hopper; and portable, mounted on a frame with casters and attached to a drying hopper.

The dryer uses the principle of absorption and is equipped with two individual desiccant beds for a constant dry-air supply. By means of a reverse flow direction between process and regeneration air, the dryer is able to achieve a constant process air temperature and dew point up to -60C, independent of ambient air condition. By utilizing motorized switch-over valves instead of pneumatic cylinders, no compressed air supply is required for dryer operation.

EFFICIENT CHILLERS ELIMINATE DOWN TIME

Freeze Co. Systems’ new line of modular chillers are efficient and compact modules that have been designed for the smaller-scale molder with shop-floor space constraints. MODULAR CHECK-VALVE ASSEMBLY OFFERS FLEXIBILITY

A new check-valve design, developed and manufactured by P.E.M. Feed Screws, offers injection molders a fast and cost effective way to optimize machine performance and part quality. The innovative “Slide-N-Lock” ring check-valve features a universal screw tip, which can accommodate either a free-flow sliding ring or a rin
g that interlocks and turns with the tip. The stroke length of the ring is critical to shut off consistency and shear introduced into the resin. The designers placed the stroke length conveniently into the seat area, thus allowing an adjustment by changing seats. The Slide-N-Lock valve can be used for low and high viscosity commodity resins, as well as for a wide range of technical, filled and shear sensitive resins.

LEVEL SENSOR DETECTS REGRIND SUPPLY

The KN Series capacitive level sensor detects low-dielectric, reduced moisture materials in plastics processing equipment. The sensor’s “set and forget” one-step push button setup completely eliminates multiple sensitivity adjustments.

The sensor is resistant to high levels of electrostatic discharge and its sensing face can withstand temperatures up to 230F. Sensing characteristics are optimized to detect plastic regrind and other recycled scrap materials that have extremely low dielectric constant and a large amount of air volume. The 30 mm diameter sensor can be mounted to a sight glass or installed directly in the process.

CONTROL UNIT COST-EFFECTIVE, PORTABLE

The Sentra VE Series temperature controller from Advantage Engineering features a new pulsed valve technology (PVT) cooling valve and new microprocessor-based instruments. FIRST FULLY-INTEGRATED 3-D SCAN DEVICE

Faro Technologies Inc. has introduced the industry’s first seven axis contact/non-contact measurement device with a fully integrated laser scanner. The Faro Laser ScanArm’s hard probe and laser scanner can digitize interchangeably without having to remove either component.

Users can collect simple point variations with the Arm’s hard probe, then laser scan sections requiring larger volumes of data without the wasted time of adding or removing attachments, untangling cabling or having to use a separate CMM then trying to import the data. The ScanArm even has an “Auto Material” feature, which samples the object’s surface, then adjusts the Scanner’s settings to ensure optimal scanning.

“There are no third-party attachments, no external electronics and no cables that interfere with the Arm’s infinite rotation ability, so users get maximum data handling, accuracy and efficiency in an affordable package,” says Faro president and CEO Simon Raab.

HIGH CAPACITY SENSORS

Carlo Gavazzi is showcasing its industry leading Tripleshield capacitive sensors, which incorporate new features. The microprocessor-based sensors now feature a single push-button “Teach Mode” that allows the user to program the sensing range and output, eliminating the need for a potentiometer.

The sensors also have a remote-teach wire, allowing them to be fully programmed from a remote location. The sensing range has also been increased to 12 mm for the M18 style and 30 mm for the M30 style.

COUPLINGS CAN BE INSTALLED 30% FASTER

H-P Products Inc. will showcase the Metflo Instalok coupling, the first major breakthrough in compression coupling technology in over 40 years. Instalok’s new design allows the insertion of just one tube end and the tightening of one bolt at a time, eliminating the awkwardness of the standard three-bolt coupling installation.

Instalok couplings feature black nitrile O-rings. The coupling’s unique design holds the O-rings in so they will not fall out or catch on the tube, eliminating the common “gasket grab” problem. The couplings have a 20% overall lower cost and can be installed 30% faster.

COMPLETE PURGING THROUGH REACTIVE CHEMISTRY

PMI-PURGE is a purging compound containing the most effective purging technology developed in decades, utilizing a completely new reactive chemistry. It removes all traces of barrel residue in any plastics processing application in less time, for less cost. Additionally, the purging compound contains a heat-released visual aid that tells you it has worked. Maintenance personnel will observe a grayish black tint in the drool. LARGE COOLING, SMALL FOOTPRINT

International Cooling Systems (ICS) Inc.’s Silver Series portable chiller has been redesigned from the ground up. This latest addition to the ICS line incorporates centrifugal blowers, increased cooling capacity and the smallest footprint in the industry. The outer casing is constructed of stainless steel and the water side is completely non-ferrous.

The chiller’s controller takes input from the safety devices and provides digital temperature display of both entering and exiting water. Additional safety features include compressor anti-cycling timers and compressor rotation on multiple compressor applications. PORTABLE SYSTEM COMES WITH DESICCANT-FREE DRYING

Novatec’s patented NovaDrier can be utilized for processing applications of seven to 150 lb/hr. The NovaDrier is a unique compressed air/membrane dryer that successfully dries all resins without the use of a desiccant bed.

The NovaDrier produces continuous -40C dew point air within four minutes of startup. It has no moving parts, no process motor or regeneration motor, and operates on untreated plant air.

PRESSURE TRANSMITTERS FOR “SMART” MEASUREMENT

Dynisco, through its distributor Cyronix, is introducing the new SPX Series of smart melt pressure transmitters to the Canadian market. The SPX Series is designed for all extrusion and process pressure measurements, ranging from 25 to 30,000 psi. The new line maintains up to 0.25% FS pressure measurement accuracy at process temperatures up to 400C. The SPX Series provides 4 to 20 mA output for pressure measurement with optional HART communication functionality. LASER SYSTEM DELIVERS BETTER QUALITY WELDS

Branson is introducing its Laser IRAM assembly systems at Plast-Ex. Because the process is non-intrusive, parts typically have high weld quality and excellent cosmetic properties. Since there is no relative motion between parts, no excitation or vibration, or large heated platens, only the weld area is heated and melted. The process is easily controlled by varying the power of the laser beam, allowing accurate control of power dissipation within the weld, resulting in little flash and no particulate. Laser IRAM typically operates in one of two modes: simultaneous mode (STTIr) illuminates the entire weld surface simultaneously using laser diodes and fiber optics; wide-beam scanning is used for laminating or welding large surface areas as well as in applications requiring welding of internal walls. Typical cycle times with IRAM range from 3
to 5 seconds, compared to 3 to 60 seconds for other technologies.

PLUG-AND WELD GENERATOR EXPANDS AUTOMATICALLY

Dukane’s new DPC 11 Plus ultrasonic generator recognizes modules as they are added or removed from the generator and automatically reconfigures the user interface. This simplifies and speeds up the setup process, plus two new hot keys give one-step access to frequently used commands. Previously customers had to commit to features before purchase, but now the user can select a basic configuration that meets current needs and add more capability later.The generator’s timer module controls weld, hold and afterburst times and stores up to eight setup files.
