KoSa has launched a breakthrough PET resin for beer bottles and hot fill applications. KoSa’s 2201 resin is designed to provide beer packagers with lightweight, thermally stable bottles which can withstand the stringent conditions of tunnel pasteurization. The material is also suitable for juices, isotonic drinks and other hot-fill applications. Its improved heat-set characteristics allow for higher production levels and lighter bottles than those traditionally used in hot-fill applications.

Sidel’s Actis treatment has received food contact approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). According to Sidel, the Actis treatment for PET containers provides improved barrier properties compared with standard PET. Actis-treated bottles are targeted for beer, fruit juice and carbonated beverages.

A reheat stretch blow molding machine with servo electric clamp is available from W. Amsler Equipment Inc. The servo electric clamp operates the mold platen at high speed with only 2 hp compared with the 30 hp requirement of a hydraulic system. In addition, the clamp has pressure compensation, applying only the force needed. The L22 model produces 200 ml to 2 L bottles in neck finishes from 23 mm to 43 mm at rates up to 2400 bottles/hour.
