California-based PowerFile has been able produce a high-quality, but cost-effective DVD/CD Jukebox thanks in part to LNP Engineering Plastics.
PowerFile was able to keep costs down by designing parts for high-volume manufacturing and investing up front in tooling. The global availability of LNP’s products played a key role in their use as PowerFile decided to do the tooling in Korea and the manufacturing in China
LNP’s Lubriloy D-EP polycarbonate was used for the jukebox’s sliding components because of its lubricity and toughness. The jukeboxes’ carousels are supported and guided by three pairs of rollers that are subjected to high levels of abuse during shipping. PowerFile chose Lubriloy because of the high impact loads and has experienced no problems so far.
A LNP Thermocomp reinforced composite was used for the supporting structures for the sliding components. And Colorcomp pre-coloured polycarbonate was chosen for the two-part exterior panel, which is the primary cosmetic feature of the unit.
