Clamp innovations permit the two latest additions to the Boy line of small injection molding machines to handle larger molds with a smaller overall machine footprint.

Both the Model 55, a 60.6 ton machine, and the Model 90, a 99.2 ton machine, have a two-platen clamping system using four tie bars as clamping cylinders to provide greater access to the clamp area and a more compact overall machine footprint. The footprint is 30% smaller than previous Boys and considerably smaller than machines with a conventional three-platen design.

Triple layered tie bars develop the clamp tonnage in the direction of the fixed platen to permit the cantilevered clamping system to be open on all sides and fully accessible.

The company has also incorporated a patented clamp intensifier which allows processors to operate larger molds that would typically require larger machines.
