A sure sign that spring is upon us is the sudden proliferation of chirping birds virtually everywhere; and a Dutch company called Wilnest is making sure they don't lack adequate housing.

A sure sign that spring is upon us is the sudden proliferation of chirping birds virtually everywhere; and a Dutch company called Wilnest is making sure they don’t lack adequate housing.

Using BASF’s Luran S, a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer impact modified with acrylic rubber, Wilnest has manufactured a construction kit for bird nests designed to protect our feathered friends from the elements, and other dangers.

Injection molded at AKG Mouldings Vroomshoop, The Netherlands, the nests are lightweight, allowing them to remain securely fastened to trees or outside walls during high winds; and also well-insulated with a double wall, thereby keeping their inhabitants warm inside.

Due to the high chemical resistance, impact strength and UV resistance of Luran S, the nests are impervious to harm from woodpeckers and squirrels. Additionally, the smooth surface of the resin prevents the chicks from leaving the nest too soon, thereby increasing their chances of survival.
