Creating a multi-functional bottle opener that can be easily used by people without Herculean strength was enabled through a “soft-yet-grippy” thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) from GLS Corp.

At first glance, the three-in-one bottle opener Inpro Products Group, an affiliate of Aztec Tool Company in Long Island, N.Y., vaguely resembles others on the market, but by looking closely, it is easy to see that the TPE is overmolded over a stainless steel opener and pop-top can “flipper.”

GLS’ G7820 TPE is injected into a 120-ton injection molding presses into multiple cavities and overmolded over the stainless steel bottle opener.

After the opener is released from the mold, a magnet is inserted into a cavity on the back of the opener and the TPE cools, making the magnet an integral part of the unit.

Now the user, whether it is a child or a senior citizen, can comfortably and easily achieve the torque needed to spin off a plastic screw cap, pop a metal top off a glass bottle, or spring the can ring or pop top.
