A new version of Maguire’s Low Pressure Dryer (LPD) has five times the maximum capacity of the next largest LPD unit. The new Maguire LPD-1000 resin dryer, which will be shown at NPE, accommodates processing-machine throughputs up to 1000 lb./hr. Like smaller LPD models, it requires one-sixth of the time and as little as 20% of the energy needed by conventional hot-air/desiccant dryers to properly dry resin. Until now, the advantages of the LPD drying system were not available for processing operation with hourly outputs in the range of 200 to 1000 lb. Such operations, now targeted by the new LPD-1000 model, include PET preforms and bottles, large-part injection molding and high-volume extrusion.
