Material supplier DSM Desotech has created a new business unit in the area of formulated coatings and composites.

According to DSM, the company’s DSM Functional Materials Business Unit will focus on market trends that involve environmentally friendly and light-weight materials. Specifically, the new unit will focus on Asia and other high-growth economies, while also targeting additional high-growth areas including functional coatings and materials for solar applications, functional wood coatings and composite materials.

The activities of its current DSM Desotech Business Unit will be integrated into this new structure.

“Much more than in the past, we will actively pursue partnerships and venturing to grow our efforts beyond what could traditionally be accomplished in our own strength,” said Henk-Jan Koenen, the unit’s director. “Sustainability will continue to be our innovation driver and our portfolio will strongly reflect DSM’s commitment to the ‘triple-p’ bottom line approach: people, planet, and profit.”

With North American headquarters in Elgin, Ill., DSM Desotech is a leading developer high-performance UV-curable materials including the DeSolite optical fiber coatings brand, and Somos stereolithography additive fabrication materials.
