The Canadian Polystyrene Recycling Association (CPRA) is temporarily shut down following a fire in the warehouse area on April 21. No one was injured in the blaze; the plant had damage to part of the roof and a wall.
The CPRA facility in Mississauga, ON, had expanded last year with the addition of a second recycling line, giving it the ability to recycle up to 15 million lb. of polystyrene a year.
Cathy Cirko, a member of the board of directors of CPRA, said in early May that the facility expects to resume operations as soon as the equipment and building have been cleaned and repaired.
Cirko is also director general of EPIC, the Environment and Plastics Industry Council of the Canadian Plastics Industry Association.
