Johnson Controls Inc. has announced plans to close its Stratford, ON automotive trim plant. The plant, which employs 392 people, is scheduled to be closed in December, according to a press report. A company spokesperson said the plant is not competitive with similar operations. The Canadian Auto Workers, which represents employees at Stratford, claims that Johnson is planning to relocate the work to Mexico, although the company would not confirm this. The CAW said it will fight the closing. The union said it had a written agreement that the facility is the main supplier of seating trim for DaimlerChrysler AG’s Bramalea, ON vehicle assembly plant.
