Canadian auto parts supplier Magna International Inc. is investing US$48 million to build a new facility in Novi, Mich., for its seating division.

The project is being funded in part by the Michigan Economic Development Corp., which awarded Magna Seating a US$984,000 performance-based grant. Also, the city of Novi is offering support to the project in the form of property tax abatement.

Aurora, Ont.-based Magna plans to build the 180,000-square-foot building for its Magna Seating of America Inc. subsidiary.

“[Magna] is looking to consolidate activities into a single facility to house its headquarters, engineering, research and development, and sales and marketing teams,” the Michigan Economic Development Corp. said in a statement.
