Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has officially begun production of the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan at its assembly plant in Windsor, Ont.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles spent more than $2.6 billion on the minivan program, which included significant upgrades to the Windsor plant to retool it for production of the all-new minivan architecture and the hiring of 1,200 new workers.

Officials say the new Pacifica will be available in Canada in the next few weeks.

More than 10 million minivans have been built on the Windsor assembly line since it started production of the minivan in 1983.
