Ontario packaging plant closing

Graham Packaging Company L.P.has announced it will close its Burlington, ON blow-molding plant in January 2002. Approximately 140 jobs will be eliminated as a result of the closing. According to George Stevens, vice president and general manager of the company’s Canadian operations, production at the Burlington plant will be relocated to either Graham Packaging’s Mississauga, ON facility or to a plant in the U.S.
"This was a difficult business decision, but one that had to be made to assure we will continue to operate as a healthy competitor in Canada," Stevens said. "We have concluded there is no longer a need for two plants in such close proximity."
Graham Packaging designs and manufactures custom blow-molded containers.
