Unique Tool & Gauge acquires Windsor, Ont.-based Gauge Rite Inc.

Plastics tooling manufacturer Unique Tool & Gauge Inc., headquartered in Windsor, Ont., has acquired 100 per cent of gauge and fixture supplier Gauge Rite Inc., which is also located in Windsor.

Terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

Gauge Rite currently employs 10 people. Employment at Gauge Rite is not expected to change, and the business will continue to operate under the Gauge Rite name in its current location as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Unique Tool & Gauge.

“I’m excited about this acquisition. Our customers have been asking us to build gauges and up until now, that business hasn’t really been part of our portfolio,” said Darcy King, president of Unique Tool & Gauge. “Gauge Rite is a world-class supplier and together our businesses have tremendous synergy. We fully intend to grow Gauge Rite’s business, and our intention is to funnel some of our own work through Gauge Rite, although we will still maintain an outside supplier base for some of the gauges and fixtures we supply to our customers.”

The acquisition is the latest sign of growth for Unique Tool; over the past 18 months, the company has increased employment at its 50,000-square-foot plant from 65 to 90.

Unique Tool supplies plastics tooling primarily to customers in the automotive industry, serving all major OEMs in Canada and the U.S.
