In a bid to strengthen its position as a supplier of manufacturing execution systems (MES) for the injection molding industry, injection press maker Engel Holding GmbH has acquired Austria-based MES provider T.I.G. (Technische Informationssysteme GmbH).

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

“Engel and T.I.G. have been closely cooperating in the area of MES solutions for many years,” Austria-based Engel said in a statement. “Engel’s own MES system, e-factory, is based on the development efforts of T.I.G. This is why our investment in T.I.G. is strategically significant. Together, we can respond in an even more targeted fashion to the often very individualised requirements of our customers, thereby adding greater value for the customer, and strengthening the competitive ability of both companies.”

T.I.G. will be managed as an independent subsidiary, Engel said, and the two MES solutions – Engel’s e-factory and T.I.G.’s authentig system – will continue to be offered independently, as stand-alone solutions, and development will continue on both. “T.I.G. has an excellent name in the industry, and leads the market in MES solutions for the injection molding industry, which is why it is important that T.I.G. remains independent,” Engel said.

T.I.G. developed its first MES for the plastics industry back in 1994, Engel said.
