PolyOne Corporation has announced an agreement with chemical company Segetis to develop bio-derived plasticizers for use in targeted petroleum and bio-based polymers.

The joint agreement is intended for a variety of end-use markets, such as electronics, consumer, healthcare, and automotive.

Initial developments will be tested in the U.S., the companies said in a press release, but they expect all resulting technology platforms will become globally available.

Avon Lake, Ohio-based PolyOne previously announced joint development efforts with Archer Daniels Midland to produce bio-plasticizers for use in vinyl-related markets. The planned development work with Golden Valley, Minn.-based Segetis will expand PolyOne’s current relationships in bio-derived plasticizers to extend into non-vinyl products.
