Winter is certainly not the ideal season for underground installation, but plastics manufacturer Rehau AG+Co was faced with precisely that situation when it provided pipes for a new sewage system that was recently installed in the residential area of Traiskirchen, Austria.
To help ensure that the process went smoothly, the company used pipes made with BorECO BA 212E, a durable polypropylene (PP) resin developed by chemical supplier Borealis AG, that offers low weight, high stiffness and good impact resistance at low temperatures.
The pipes’ low weight, when compared to traditional concrete, allowed fast and cost-efficient transportation, according to Borealis, while the high ring stiffness and jointing flexibility helped ensure smooth installation in the trench.
Additionally, the company said, BorECO’s corrosion, abrasion and chemical resistance will give the pipes durability of at least 100 years, ensuring long-term protection of the environment by preventing leaks.
