Demand for extruded plastic in the U.S. will expand 2.6 per cent yearly to nearly 34 billion pounds in 2013, largely due to a turnaround in the housing market, according to a new report from market research firm The Freedonia Group.

The company’s “Extruded Plastics” study also projected that demand for extruded plastics in the U.S. is forecast to valued at more than US$23 billion (resin content only).

The fastest growth in demand is expected for polypropylene, the study also said, mainly for extruded sheet used in the manufacture of disposable trays, cups, bowls and other packaging.
