Spartech to shutter Cornwall, Ont., sheet plant

Spartech Corporation, a U.S.-based producer of engineered thermo plastic sheet, polymeric compounds, and engineered products, is closing its manufacturing plant in Cornwall, Ont.

The closure will take place at the end of January, 2013.

According to a report in The Cornwall Daily, company spokesperson Christy Emmenegger said the closure has to do with the company restructuring “to better optimize their capacity in Canada and better serve their customers.” She said cost was a factor in the company’s decision to close the plant but refused to further elaborate. 

Almost 50 workers will lose their jobs.

Headquartered in Clayton, Missouri, Spartech operates two other plants in Canada: Granby, Que. and Stratford, Ont. Both will continue operations, Emmenegger said.
