Japan Steel Works Ltd. (JSW) has purchased 80 per cent of Korean twin screw extruder maker SM Platek Co. Ltd.

Headquartered in Ansan City, South Korea, SM Platek manufactures extruders for the plastics compounding industry, and is said to have a major market share in Korea. “The demand for compounding extruders is rapidly growing,” JSW said in a statement, and SM Platek is also concentrating on exporting to Japan, Southeast Asia, India, Russia and China. As of April 2015, SM Platek has supplied to 23 countries and 228 clients worldwide, JSW said.

JSW is a leading manufacturer of various kinds of plastics processing machinery including injection molding machines, film and sheet making equipment, pelletizers, compounding extruders, and blow molding machines.

After this transaction, SM Platek will supply its twin screw extruders (Tek series) as a “global standard model” to the market and will concentrate on extruders with screw diameters below 100 mm. JSW will supply the Tex series for high-end, special application extruders in fields such as super engineering plastics, reaction, dewatering and degassing. As a group, SM Platek and JSW will then cover all areas and markets in compounding, JSW said.
