The global market for additive manufacturing and 3D printing grew 35.2 per cent, and expanded by more than US$1 billion, to US$4.1 billion in 2014, according to a new report by market research firm Wohlers Associates Inc.

The compound annual growth rate over the past three years (2012-2014) was 33.8 per cent.

The report noted that 49 manufacturers are now producing and selling industrial-grade additive manufacturing machines.

The Wohlers report also said that growth occurred in all segments of the diverse industry, including the low-cost “desktop” 3D printer segment. “The use of industrial metal additive manufacturing systems for demanding production applications in the aerospace and medical markets also grew strongly,” the report said.

The report sells for US$495.00, and was created with help and support from “87 service providers, 40 system manufacturers, and the valuable contributions of 78 co-authors in 31 countries.” For more information, click on this link.
