Global 3D printing market expanded to $4 billion in 2014: report

The global market for additive manufacturing and 3D printing grew 35.2 per cent, and expanded by more than US$1 billion, to US$4.1 billion in 2014, according to a new report by market research firm Wohlers Associates Inc.

The compound annual growth rate over the past three years (2012-2014) was 33.8 per cent.

The report noted that 49 manufacturers are now producing and selling industrial-grade additive manufacturing machines.

The Wohlers report also said that growth occurred in all segments of the diverse industry, including the low-cost “desktop” 3D printer segment. “The use of industrial metal additive manufacturing systems for demanding production applications in the aerospace and medical markets also grew strongly,” the report said.
