Gerd Liebig will be new CEO at Sumitomo (SHI) Demag
Injection molding machine maker Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has named Gerd Liebig as its new CEO, effective January 1, 2017.
Liebig will succeed Dr. Tetsuya Okamura, who will take over a new responsible position at Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd., its Japanese parent company.
Liebig, 55, is a 25-year veteran of the injection molding industry, and has been the chief sales officer at Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery GmbH since April 2015. From 1990 until 2005, Liebig was the head of marketing with Sumitomo (SHI) Demag’s predecessor company Demag Plastics Group.
“Since he joined the company, Gerd has set the focus on being innovative…and [our] market shares in all strategic market segments have increased considerably,” Okamura said in a statement. “I am giving Sumitomo (SHI) Demag into good hands when handing over the business to the new Managing Board.”
Sumitomo (SHI) Demag is comprised of four facilities in Japan, Germany, and China with more than 3,000 employees. The product portfolio includes all-electric, hydraulic, and hybrid injection molding machines.
