Graham Packaging Company Inc. announced that a subsidiary agreed to acquire China Roots Packaging PTE Ltd., a plastic container manufacturer in Guangzhou, China. 

 

York. Pa.-based Graham said the deal – its first in China – was expected to close by June 30. Financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

“The purchase will open a new door for our company,” said Mark Burgess, CEO for Graham Packaging. “China is undeniably a major market, and the opportunity to participate in its growth is very exciting for us.”

 

Graham is a global leader in customized blow molded plastic containers for the food and beverage, household, personal care and automotive lubricants markets. The company produces more than 20 billion container units annually at 80 plants in North America, Europe and South America. Graham’s Canadian operation is located in Mississauga, Ont.

 

Founded in August 2005, China Roots makes plastic containers and closures for food, health care, and petrochemical products. Its customers include several global consumer product marketers.
