Just as Moore’s law predicts ever increasing computing power, there seems to be no limit to increasing rates of PET bottle throughput. To prove the point, French machinery manufacturer Sidel displayed a record-setting 20 dual cavity blow molding machine at NPE. The machine, the SBO 20 Dual Cavity, is capable of making 3,000 PET bottles per station per hour, for a total of 60,000 bottles per hour, both world records, according to Sidel. The current record is 53,000 bph, produced on a Sidel machine at a bottling plant in England.

The SBO 20 is equipped with 20 molds, each with two blowing cavities. Sidel introduced dual cavity machines to the soft drink industry 10 years ago, and has sold 43 of these machines to customers around the world.
